about

Carried by uplifting harmonies and upbeat rhythms, the song’s lyrics, in contrast, are fueled by serious subject matter and serve as politically-charged commentary on society today. “There Goes My Baby” addresses the horrific reality that America has become a ground for terrorism because of the lack of gun laws and failed mental health and healthcare systems, and how schools have so often been targets. The lyrics, "Didn't you read the news today, a group of kids on the front page," refer to the cover of Time Magazine featuring students from Parkland and organizers of the March For Our Lives. The song also represents the battle of fear that parents have to now endure as they send their children to school, knowing that these institutions that should be safe places harboring growth and learning, are now targets for such gun violence.

lyrics

Didn't you read the news today?
A group of kids on the front page
They pass on by and blame the insane
A horror story that's become mundane

There goes, there goes my baby
There goes, there goes, there she goes now
What has this country come to?
Where will, where will we go now?

What if the well that feeds you
Is the thing that could kill you too
Those harmless halls well they've grown fangs
A generation immorally slain

There goes, there goes my baby
There goes, there goes, there she goes now
What has this country come to?
Where will, where will we go now?

It's been a long, long, long time
A long, long, long time
Long, long, long time
Ooooh ooooh
